Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer, but thanks to our beautiful Bay Area weather, our warm days are here for a while longer. And speaking of labor, this Saturday, September 6th, is our official workday at the Cascade.
Unfortunately, I will not be there this Saturday, but I will be around this Tuesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m should anyone want to stop by and keep me company.
As for Saturday, come prepared to clip and prune. We will focus on the Morning Glory, the redwood suckers and the ever-encroaching ivy. Lots of flowering plants have begun to brown and shrivel; we will need to remove those as well.
As always, sweeping will keep us busy. To help with the debris, new brown paper backs (the sturdy, stand-up ones) have been purchased as well as a new, hardy-bristle broom.
Special thanks to the anonymous volunteer who constructed the base of the new toolbox. Hopefully its entirety will be completed before the fall and winter rains come, and will allow us to divvy up the larger tools and the smaller hand tools.
Something to mull over: we are having T-shirts designed that will promote the Cascade and our volunteer work. We would like to sell them but are not allowed to do so on the premises. Any suggestions where we can sell them? Across the street, near the lake? At the Saturday farmers’ market? I think we should target the exercisers who use the Cascade; they will be the most likely ones to purchase them. Maybe hit up the instructors who are there with their workout teams? Come with ideas on Saturday!
