A detail from a wider-perspective photograph whose original caption is: “LAK-217: Cleveland Cascade. Looking up cascade from middle terrace.”
This detail of the lowest basin, where it poured into the pool, shows clearly that the saucer-shaped bowls — which had been affixed to the back walls of each basin — had been removed or destroyed by the time of this November 1950 photograph.

The above detail is from this wider-perspective photograph. |
The negatives of these photographs, dated November 1950, were found in the Oakland Library's History Room. The negatives were scanned and then inverted to make positives. Without manipulation, they were too washed out to see much detail. We adjusted their brightness and contrast in order to reveal more from the photograph.
