There’s a very important meeting of city-council members on Tuesday, February 8th, 2005, that is critical for our efforts to revitalize the Cleveland Cascade.
The Life Enrichment Committee will consider a recommendation from City staff to allocate $300,000 of Measure DD funds toward the Cleveland Cascade: “renovation of the area including crosswalk, railings, fountain, lighting, planting, and irrigation.”
That $300,000 is VERY important to our efforts to revitalize the Cascade and to bring its cascading fountain back to life.
You should also be very proud: The “exceptional community support” that you have evidenced for the Cascade is one of the reasons the Cascade made the final cut on the list of projects to be funded. Now is the time to show that support one more time.
There are two ways you can help.
Tell them that the Cleveland Cascade is important to you and to Oakland. Specifically, express your support for the Cleveland Cascade portion of the Lake Merritt System Wide Project. Email would be great.
The three members of the Life Enrichment Committee are:

(Danny Wan would have been on the committee representing District 2. Now that he has resigned, the District 2 seat on the committee is vacant.)
You can also write them the old-fashioned way at One Frank Ogawa Plaza, 2nd Floor, Oakland 94612.
Come to the meeting of the Life Enrichment Committee and show your support.
When: Tuesday, February 8th, 6 p.m.
Where: Hearing Room 1 of City Hall,
One Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, Oakland 94612
(Click for driving directions.)
You don't need to speak. We'll have small signs (just an 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper with a photo of the original Cascade) that you can hold up to show the council members the reason you're there.
Your presence is very important. Nothing communicates depth of community support like people who take time out of their busy lives to come to City Hall for a cause they care about.
You can park for free at the Clay Street parking structure behind City Hall just by telling the attendant when you exit what meeting you were attending.
